Japan Air Lines ponders charter flights to Marshalls

2:06 pm on 24 June 2005

Reports from Majuro say Japan Air Lines is investigating the start of direct charter flights to the Marshall Islands next year.

Earlier this month, an airline manager, Koji Mochizuki, for the first time elevated long-desired direct air service from Japan to the Marshall Islands from talk to a serious proposition.

The proposal has been welcomed by the general manager of the 150 room Marshall Islands Resort.

There are only few tourists to the Marshalls which last year only had 2,683 visitors.

The expression of interest by Japan Air Lines comes as the carrier is about to end its regular service to the Northern Mariana Islands.
