Fiji's opposition leader, Mahendra Chaudhry, has categorically rejected a claim by the prime minister that racial politics is part of the country's society and cannot be ignored.
Radio Legend says Mr Chaudhry was commenting on Laisenia Qarase's statement that race is part of Fiji's politics and if Mr Chaudhry believes it is not, then he is quite wrong.
Mr Qarase was referring to the formation of a grand coalition of indigenous political parties including his ruling SDL, the pro-coup Conservative Alliance and nationalists.
Mr Chaudhry says the grand coalition of only indigenous Fijian parties will further divide the nation.
Mr Chaudhry says this tactic is being used to frighten the indigenous Fijians to vote for Fijian parties or the Indians will take over the country.
He says if Mr Qarase is going to push for Fijians versus the rest, then there will be no stability as seen since 1987.
Mr Chaudhry says it is people like Mr Qarase who are part of the problem.
The opposition leader is asking why the prime minister is not pushing for national unity.
