A private school in Hawaii has filed its petition to a US appeal court to reconsider a ruling against its native hawaiians admissions policy.
Kamehameha Schools is hoping a panel of judges will approve a request to review the case by September 13th for a hearing.
Three weeks ago, the 9th Circuit Court in San Francisco overturned the school's admissions policy because it created an absolute bar to the admission for non-Hawaiians, which was a violation of anti-discrimination laws.
Kamehameha Schools says the ruling invalidates a remedial education policy for the benefit of indigenous people.
Meanwhile, the Honolulu Star reports that the unidentified student who took the matter to court has had to attend school elsewhere.
