American Samoa is to get an additional 1 point 3 million U.S. dollars from the American Department of Transportation to help upgrade and repair roads damaged by Cyclone Olaf.

Olaf brought widespread destruction to Manu'a Islands earlier this year.

The U.S. Secretary of Transportation, Norman Mineta, says the funds come from an 80 million dollar emergency relief reserve.

Mr cyclone Mineta says the money will help residents rebuild their communities and resume their normal lives after the cyclone destroyed bridges and roads.
