One of the co-organisers of a demonstration in Samoa in support of former government doctors says they will keep the pressure on government to enter mediation.
Maiava Visekota Peteru says up to 1,500 people marched through Apia at the weekend to show their support for 23 doctors who resigned en masse three weeks ago.
The doctors had been striking for nine weeks over entry-level pay and conditions and had been told by the prime minister to go back to work or face dismissal.
Maiava says two cabinet ministers and a representative of the PM's office accepted a petition from the demonstrators, saying cabinet will discuss the issue again.
But she says protestors will hold them to that.
"I think we will probably give them the next two weeks. We've already made a press statement in the paper today that further action will be taken, but the nature of that action will depend on the response or lack of response that we get."
