New leaders of CNMI are sworn in

This afternoon Benigno Fitial will be publicly sworn in as Governor of the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands and Timothy Villagomez will be his Lieutenant.

The Saipan Tribune reports that Pedro Tenorio will also be sworn in as Washington Representative.

The new leaders were officially sworn in during a private ceremony exclusive to their families last night .

During today's ceremony, Mr Fitial will deliver his inauguration address and introduce his Cabinet members.

About 300 to 500 international guests are expected to witness Mr Fitial's oath-taking.

This includes heads of states from all over Micronesia, ranking government officials from nearby countries and the United States, and prominent businessmen from Asia.

An island-style fiesta and entertainment, including a fireworks display, will follow the ceremony.

An exclusive inaugural ball will be held later tonight.
