Bougainville's speaker off to London to study parliamentary systems

8:35 pm on 2 March 2006

The Speaker for the Autonomous Bougainville Government in Papua New Guinea, Nick Peniai, is to join other Commonwealth delegates at a parliamentary seminar in London next week.

The seminar at Westminster will discuss comparative parliamentary procedures and look at best practices in Commonwealth legislatures.

Mr Peniai and the other visiting delegates will focus on sessions familiarising delegates with parliamentary practices and procedures at Westminster.

He will also meet the British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, at a No 10 Downing St reception.
