The high court in American Samoa has sentenced Richard Mahjor to 50 years imprisonment for the murder of Wyatt Bowles Junior three years ago.
Mahjor, who is 34, has to serve 40 years without the possibility of parole.
This is to be served at the same time as a seven-year jail term for felonious restraint.
For tampering with evidence and property damage, Mahjor will serve five years for each count, to be served after his 40 year sentence.
Mahjor, who cannot expect to be released before he is 81, has asked for a retrial.
