A leading cannery company in American Samoa is in talks with the government to be allowed to hire employees from outside the territory.
The general manager of Star Kist, Brett Butler, says he's struggling to find employees because of stricter immigration requirements.
He says he's trying to find more creative ways to hire staff as another cannery operation Samoa Packing is also recruiting.
He says they need at least 200 more employees to meet orders from the US mainland.
"We are still in the process....like in the last eight to nine months trying to get people in the system. We've been working with the government obviously but with immigration issues between Samoa and American Samoa, which has curtailed travel between the two islands."
