America Samoa's Congressman still opposes McDonald's proposal

12:00 pm on 25 April 2006

America Samoa's Congressman says he continues his support of the U.S. National Park Service's stand against building a McDonald's restaurant on Utulei Beach.

However, Faleomavaega Eni remains hopeful that a favorable solution is found to this issue, that he says should have never escalated to a federal problem.

He had been responding to comments made by Governor Togiola Tulafono.

The Governor had said that that Faleomavaega did not have all the facts, in opposing the project.

But Faleomavaega says he has copies of federal survey maps which clearly shows that the Utulei Beach is set aside for public recreation area under an agreement American Samoa signed with the National Park Service in 1995.
