A Dornier aircraft belonging to American Samoa's Inter Island Air has been grounded since last Friday after one of its propellers stopped while the plane was in mid air.
Passengers say the aircraft was 30 minutes into a flight from Tafuna Airport to Faleolo Airport in Apia when they saw that the propeller on the left engine was not moving.
The aircraft which was half full returned to Tafuna Airport and made a safe landing.
Inter Island Air official Alex Sene Jr. says a report of the incident is being prepared for the Federal Aviation Administration.
Inter Island Air is now flying passengers to Manu'a and to Apia on its smaller Britten Norman Islander aircraft.
