Vanuatu senior public servants seek five year contracts

All Directors-General in the Vanuatu government have asked to be employed on five year contracts.

Sources close to the Directors-General say they have made the request because they see their present employment conditions as not attractive enough to keep them in the system.

The government spokesman, Patrick Crowby, says the council of Ministers has made it clear that it would consider agreeing to such an arrangement only after an independent review is carried out on the national Comprehensive Reform Programme.

He says the Directors-General were recruited to guide the Comprehensive Reform Programme, which was launched nine years ago.
