Tokelau patients go to American Samoa for scans

11:15 am on 18 December 2006

Tokelau has begun sending patients needing CAT scans to the LBJ Hospital instead of to New Zealand.

The people of Tokelau are entitled to subsidized health care from New Zealand and the New Zealand government is funding the transportation to and treatment of patients being sent to American Samoa.

Samoa also has been sending patients to LBJ when cat scans are needed.

Usually the tests are conducted on the same day basis but if an overnight stay is required,

off island rates are charged.
