Samoa's Speaker of Parliament not worried by MP's legal action

The Speaker of Samoa's parliament , Tolofuaivalelei Falemoe Leiataua, has welcomed the legal action by the Samoa Democratic United party challenging his ruling last month that the SDUP was no longer recognized as a political party and opposition in parliament.

The SDUP argues the ruling is unconstitutional and violates their basic human rights and those of electors who voted them into parliament.

But Tolofuaivalelei says his decision was based on parliament's standing orders and the power of the Electoral act.

He reminded Asiata that his powers to make rulings as a speaker are very much similar to those of the chief justice.
