The director of the Pacific Centre for Public Integrity or PCPI Angie Heffernan, has called for the suspension of the Human Rights Director, Shaista Shameem.

She says the Centre was deeply disturbed by the position taken by the director in relation to the detention and alleged abuse of six pro-democracy advocates at the hands of the military on Christmas Eve.

Ms Heffernan says recent comments made by Dr Shameem's comments are of concern.

"She's also basically questioned the motives of people that are taken in, saying and this has been reported, that some of them have different motives and they're out their to push their own agenda. Now this is an extremely wrong thing for her to say particularly given her position."
