The European Union has moved closer to suspending development aid to Fiji in response to the December coup.
The European Development Commissioner Louis Michel, has called for consultations with Fiji officials on the issue.
He said the EU would need a Fijian commitment to restoring democracy, human rights and the rule of law if the development aid programme was to continue.
