The American Samoa Government has been awarded 2.1 million US dollars for the construction of a new market place in Fagatogo.

The grant is from the United States Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration.

The new marketplace will be a two story building and will include offices for small businesses.

The American Samoa Government has been trying for years to get funding for the market place project.

Congressman Faleomavaega said the project will undoubtedly provide the much needed impetus to revitalize the Fagatogo town area with a modernized facility for local business entrepreneurs, especially farmers and fishermen, to sell their produce.
