Kiribati's Electoral Commissioner extends voter education programme

9:16 am on 30 July 2007

Kiribati's electoral commission has decided to extend its voter education programmes to ensure people are well informed.

Voters from 23 electoral districts go to the polls on August 22.

Educator workshops were supposed to finish in July, but will run right up until the day before the election.

Electoral Commissioner Rine Ueara, says it's very important that people know how to cast their vote.

"We're still working on the campaigns and we're still working with education and awareness and visiting the public and teaching people how to cast their vote correctly so we don't have invalid ballot papers."

Candidate nominations for the 2007 election closed on July 25.
