Number of overseas job applicants for Supervisor of Elections in Fiji

9:04 am on 20 November 2007

People from Australia, New Zealand, India and Canada as well as Europe and parts of Africa have applied for the post of Supervisor of Elections in Fiji.

This has been disclosed by the chairman of the Constitutional Offices Commission, Rishi Ram, who says a total of 30 applications have been received.

He says most applicants are highly qualified and have a legal background.

Mr Ram says shortlisted applicants will be interviewed through teleconferencing and an appointment made by the end of next month.

The position was advertised twice within Fiji but no suitable applicant was found.

The former Supervisor of Elections, Semesa Karavaki, was removed by the interim administration following numerous complaints about the conduct of the general elections in May last year.
