LBJ Hospital in American Samoa resumes off island medical referral programme

The LBJ Hospital in American Samoa has resumed the off island medical referral programme which was suspended in September.

The Chairman of the Hospital Authority Board Charles Warren says effective immediately, LBJ will resume paying for the transportation and treatment for patients approved by the Hospital Off island referral committee.

When it suspended the program two months ago, the board said that it would use funding approved in this year's budget for the programme, to cover an overrun in the last fiscal year.

Mr Warren says it appears that there's an additional 900,000 US dollars in the off island referral programme that the board was not aware of.
