No lasting damage in Tonga in wake of downpour

3:20 pm on 11 February 2008

Tonga authorities say there are no ongoing problems as a result of a downpour on the main island Tongatapu on Friday night.

Almost thirty centimetres of rain fell in some places, causing minor flooding of homes and workplaces.

The Tongan Water Board says the torrential rain has given water supplies a good recharge, and there's no risk of contamination.
