Two former Fiji diplomats - Berenado Vunibobo and Ratu Finau Mara - have been appointed for diplomatic postings by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Fiji Live online says Mr Vunibobo has been appointed Fiji's permanent representative to the United Nations to be based in New York.

Fiji lawyer Ratu Mara, the son of the late president Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara, will be Fiji's ambassador to the United States to be based in Washington.

The interim Foreign Affairs minister Ratu Epeli Nailatikau has confirmed the appointments,

Mr Vunibobo replaces former police commissioner Isikia Savua to the UN, and Ratu Mara replaces Jesoni Vitusagavulu - both of whom were recalled following the military takeover in December 2006.

The two new appointees have gained the approval of the US Government and are expected to leave Fiji at the end of this month.
