Solomon Islands Government reportedly sacks its special envoy to RAMSI

The Solomon Islands Government has reportedly sacked Michael Maina as its special envoy to the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands or RAMSI.

The paper, Solomon Star, says this is allegedly for his refusal to drop a 2006 election petition case against a senior Sikua Government Cabinet Minister.

It's the second time Mr Maina has been removed from the post, reportedly for the same reason.

Mr Maina's initial appointment was terminated by the former Sogavare administration.

Mr Maina has been pursuing a civil case against current Minister for Lands, Housing and Survey Martin Magga.

Mr Magga was earlier briefly Minister for Justice and Legal Affairs in the Sogavare Government.

Mr Maina was reinstated when the Sikua Government won office.

It is understood Mr Maina's initial appointment as well as his second were based on an understanding that he would drop the case against Mr Magga.
