Samoa Head of State accepts university chancellor position

2:45 pm on 25 March 2008

Samoa's Head of State, Tui-Atua Tupua Tamasese Efi, has finally assumed the role as Chancellor for the National University of Samoa, after Cabinet approval last year.

Speaking during an official ceremony, the head of state reminded the government that as an MP he had strongly opposed to the establishment of the National University.

Tui-Atua says that when the government decision was made for him to become the next Chancellor he sought an explanation from the secretary for the Cabinet what this would involve.
