American Samoa court denies request for special prosecutor

The District Court of American Samoa has denied two motions requesting the appointment of a special prosecutor to deal with the case of four employees of the attorney general's office accused of misusing thousands of dollars collected for the issuing Certificate of Identities.

Defence attorneys for two of the accused had asked the District Court judge to quash the arrest warrants and dismiss the case against their clients,

Another sought to disqualify the Attorney General's Office from handling the case.

Judge John L. Ward denied the motions but said they could be taken up with the High Court in the event that the District Court finds there is probable cause to bind the case over to the High Court.
