In the Northern Marianas, recent heavy rain has affected progress in installing the emergency Aggreko generators on Saipan.
The generators were scheduled to be turned on tomorrow, and provide 15 megawatts of additional power to the island by early next week.
Aggreko site manager, Wayne Lee says the weather is making the installation process difficult, and they are working around the clock to get everything ready by Friday.
The Commonwealth Utilities Corporation executive director Antonio Muña told the Saipan Tribune that everything else is on CUC's side including fuel supply.
He says under the US$6-million contract, CUC paid Aggreko US$1.5 million as a down payment to ship the 18 generators.
Mr Muna says CUC must pay another US$536,000 within 30 days after the generators are turned on, which the Corporation will pay out of incoming revenue.
