4:34 pm on 1 October 2008

Digicel Pacific Limited has launched its Fiji network today - its fifth market in the Pacific region.

Digicel Fiji broke the long term monopoly on the industry in Fiji by getting a licence in May.

With over 170 trained employees now on board and a guarantee of 95 percent coverage, the network's chief executive officer John Delves says it has finally become a reality.

"Its been a long time. Far longer than we'd initially hoped for We've been in Fjii for over two years now so a hell of a lot of work has gone into building what we believe is the bigger and better network here. We've invested over 150 million Fiji dollars to bring in a state of the art network and we've been working intensely over the last few years to launch here."

Digicel also has operations in Samoa, Papua New Guinea, Tonga and Vanuatu.
