Solomons' Government boosts numbers to 42 of fifty MPs

The Solomon Islands government has boosted its massive parliamentary majority to a historic high with two more MP recruits this week.

Silas Milikada, MP for East Honiara, and Walter Folotalu, MP for Lau Baelelea, joined the Coalition of National Unity and Rural Advancement Government after winning by-elections.

The Government, led by Prime Minister Derek Sikua, now has 42 supporters in a 50 seat house, an unprecedented majority.

The by-elections were held after one opposition member died and another was sent to prison.

This year three Solomons MPs have been jailed and forfeited their seats.

Two more by-elections will follow later in the year.
