Call for House proceedings in American Samoa to be broadcast

11:59 am on 19 January 2009

American Samoa Tuala uta Representative, Larry Sanitoa, has called on House Speaker, Savali Talavou Ale, to consider broadcasting House proceedings on cable or television.

Mr Sanitoa says having House sessions and hearings broadcast would help constituents know what their Fono representatives are doing.

He says the governor has a radio programme, and so does Congressman Faleomavaega Eni Hunkin.

The daily sessions of the House and Senate and all hearings are filmed by staff for archival purposes.

In the late 1990's legislative sessions and hearings were broadcast on KVZK TV and cable however the Fono leadership at the time made the decision to discontinue the broadcasts.

The House Speaker, Savali Talaovu Ale, did not respond to Representative Sanitoa's request.
