3:33 pm on 27 January 2009

The Police in Vanuatu say four police officers have been charged for the attack on the publisher of the Vanuatu Daily Post, Marc Neil-Jones who suffered a broken nose and black eye.

Mr Neil-Jones suspected that the attack on January the 17th was retribution for the publication's coverage of ongoing problems at the country's main prison.

Police South Commander, John Taleo says the four men were identified by Mr Neil-Jones and witnesses who saw the attack.

"The case will go before the court to be charged for four offenses. The first offence is intentional assault causing injury, the second offence is drunk and disorderly, abusive and threatening and the last offence is trespass and damage to a property."

Commander John Taleo says he expects the men will appear in court on February the 23rd.
