2:38 pm on 9 February 2009

A joint United Nations and Commonwealth team will start its meetings with political parties in Fiji today.

It is to mediate an inclusive, independent and time-bound political dialogue process.

Fiji Village quotes the SDL and NFP parties as saying that they will be meeting with the group this afternoon.

The Labour leader Mahendra Chaudhry says he will be meeting the representatives tomorrow, while the former Opposition Leader Mick Beddoes says he'll meet them on Thursday.

The UN and Commonwealth team is also expected to meet with the interim Prime Minister and the interim Attorney General.

The team is expected to carry out its meetings until Saturday.
