Predictions cruise ship visits to Vanuatu will quadruple in two years

There are expectations that the number of cruise ships visiting Vanuatu will increase significantly over the next two years.

The National Tourism Office is expecting more than 60 cruise ships to enter the country this year and the Government is forecasting this number to double again next year.

The Tourism Office General Manager Annie Niatu says it will be a great boost to the country's economy, providing the tourists spend some money.

"I've spoken with people in the industry and they say the numbers are looking good, but for me personally I'll be focussing on how much they're actually spending in the country. We haven't had any surveys done recently to determine how much they actually spend in the country."

Annie Niatu says the increase in visiting cruise ships could be a result of tourists finding the package deals cheaper than those offered by airlines.
