The Cook Islands Under 21 netball side bounced back from two hefty losses to beat Fiji 53-48 on the final day of the three day pre world youth tournament in Auckland.

However, Fiji who were trailing by 12 goals going into the final quarter scored nine consecutive goals to come within three of the Cook Islands with five minutes remaining.

The Cook Islands held their nerve and lead which pleased coach and former Silver Ferns shooter, Teresa Tairi.

"We've been working towards this and yeah we'll work on that last quarter but oh just a fantastic team effort they really played together and after four days of keeping them all bunched up in a wee cabin it worked for us."

And Fiji coach, Melissa Walker says while the result was disappointing she'll take a lot from the final quarter

There were just too many heads that weren't within the game you know and I think in the last quarter what we're going to take out of it is that the positive stuff which is that we came nine goals in a row from being so far down they actually lifted their game and believed in themselves.
