12:13 pm on 19 March 2009

The defence lawyer in the high-profile Sakiusa Rabaka trial, Haroon Ali Shah, has filed for an appeal against the four year jail terms handed down to his clients.

Eight soldiers and a policeman were found guilty of manslaughter and five counts of assault, occasioning actual bodily harm in the high court.

Mr Shah told Fiji Live online that he filed an application for appeal on the case, and also applied for bail pending appeal for his clients.

He added his arguments for the appeal were based on misdirection of facts and law.

The decision on the appeal is expected to be made known by tomorrow.
