The Fiji soldier charged with the murder of Tailevu villager Nimilote Verebasaga has been found guilty of manslaughter.

The Fiji Live website reports that four of the five assessors in the trial of Private Maika Vuniwawa have found him not guilty of murder but guilty of manslaughter.

The decisions were passed before Justice Daniel Goundar who released Vuniwawa on bail and will hand down sentencing on Tuesday morning.

Verebasaga died on January 5, 2007 as a result of sustaining severe injuries to his internal organs after being taken into military custody that morning.
