No word whether automated weather system in American Samoa will go out for rebid

10:36 am on 24 April 2009

The American Samoa Department of Port Administration or DPA is having to decide whether the Automated Weather Observing System project will go out for rebid again.

The project was bid out earlier but as of closing early this month the Procurement Office has not received any proposals and it is now awaiting a final decision by Port Administration as to the next step.

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration has allocated funding under airport projects for the supply, installation and commissioning of an Automated Weather Observing System at Pago Pago International Airport.

Currently there is no air traffic control tower for Pago Pago International Airport, so the AWOS is to assist with providing weather information for incoming and out going flights.

Weather information is currently been provided by the National Weather Service in Pago Pago.
