Cooks confident Mini Games still on track

3:17 pm on 23 June 2009

The president of the Cook Islands Pacific Games Association, Sir Geoffrey Henry, is confident that the Pacific Mini Games will go ahead as scheduled in September.

On a just concluded visit, the president of the Pacific Games Council, Vidhya Lakhan, was critical of some of the preparation and said with less than 100 days before the Games start, his agency is extremely concerned.

Sir Geoffrey says Mr Lahkan is happy with the development of the venues but concerned about the lack, so far, of a host broadcaster and the lack of sponsorship sold or marketing being done.

But Sir Geoffrey says he believes they can remedy these concerns.

"I have just been speaking with the Prime Minister and he has given me his assurance there is no way his Government is going to fail in this matter. I spoke with the Minister of the Games yesterday, in fact we had a team discussion, and we all determined that we will continue with all efforts to ensure that the Games take place on schedule."
