8:23 am on 25 July 2009

The veteran French Polynesia politician Gaston Flosse is being questioned by police in France, two days after he lost his immunity as French Senator.

The 78-year-old French senator is being questioned in connection with the so-called OPT affair over which five people are already held in jail.

Today's questioning in Paris follows a request by an investigative judge in Tahiti who wished for the interrogation to go ahead now instead of waiting for Mr Flosse to return to Tahiti as planned

In the OPT affair Mr Flosse is alleged to have received kickbacks of about two million US dollars from a French advertising executive for granting public sector contracts during his time as President in French Polynesia.
