Tourism figures from French Polynesia show that in August arrival numbers were down by 15 percent over the same month last year.
Just under 16,000 visitors arrived which is the lowest number since 1996 when France was in its fibnal phase of testing nuclear weapons in the South Pacific.
Since the beginning of the year, the tourist figures have dropped by nearly 22 percent in a continued slide of the industry in recent years.
