The competency levels of Papua New Guinean engineers will become internationally accredited following an announcement by the Institution of Engineers PNG last week.
The Post Courier newspaper reports the institution has indicated it will improve the level of skill and build the capacity of national engineers in PNG through its association with engineers in the Pacific and South East Asia.
In a statement from chairman of the Institute, Dr Fifaia Matainho, the institution is set to enter into a memorandum of agreement with Engineers Australia to carry out competency level one assessments of all engineers in PNG.
Dr Matainho said the agreement would allow national engineers to prepare and eventually gain charted professional engineer status in line with the Washington Accord requirements.
