Pineapple Production is likely to increase in the north of Fiji.

Seaqaqa Research Station is conducting research to improve all-year-round production.

The rapid multiplication of 500,000 pineapple plantlets will be carried out this year at the research station.

This is expected to provide a base for promoting export and to assist in promoting year-round pineapple production through phase planting.

The Acting Director of Research, Miliakere Nawaikula, told the Fiji Times a revised package of practices for pineapple has been put together by the staff at the station and a trial was established last year.

She says Five different pineapple production practices have been investigated to devise the best recommendation to aid pineapple production that is economical to farmers, and staff are currently collating and recording data from those trials
