Threats against New Zealand judge investigated

12:58 am on 7 April 2010

The New Zealand judge employed as Vanuatu's coroner has arrived in Wellington, as officials investigate threats against him and his family.

Justice Dawson left Port Vila following threats that began after he released a report last month criticising a paramilitary police unit, the Vanuatu Mobile Force.

A spokesperson for the New Zealand Minister of Foreign Affairs, says the judge and his family have taken a holiday while an assessment's made of their security arrangements.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade won't say who's conducting that investigation, but says it will take some time.

Justice Dawson was in Wellington, contacting friends, yesterday, after leaving Vanuatu suddenly at the weekend.
