American Samoans choose Faleomavaega to return to US Congress

Faleomavaega Eni Hunkin has been re-elected as American Samoa's delegate to Congress.

He polled 6176 votes while challenger Aumua Amata received 4438 votes.

Tuika Tuika received 357 votes.

This will be Faleomavaega's 12th term as the territory's congressman.

Meanwhile, changes to the constitution were soundly defeated with 7,410 voters rejecting the referendum and only 3,149 voting in support of the changes.

In the American Samoa House of Representatives election a major upset was Vice Speaker Laolagi Savali Vaeao losing by one vote to challenger Toeaina Faufano Autele in Manu'a District 2.

Six sitting representatives were defeated.
