Fiji is to enforce new regulations from next year banning foreign language labels on food items.

According to the Fijivillage website, the Ministry of Health issued a directive to all traders and retailers last week to remove food items with labels in a foreign language from the shelves.

The measure is to make sure consumers can ascertain the ingredients and expiry dates.

The Attorney General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, says the issue should have been resolved years ago.
