8:59 am on 28 January 2011

The opposition in Solomon Islands is reported to be lodging a notice of a motion of no confidence in the government today.

The deputy opposition leader Mathew Wale has confirmed to the Solomon Star that a notice for the motion will be lodged with the speaker.

Mr Wale is appealing to the Prime Minister Danny Philip to call parliament to prove the motion.

According to parliamentary standing orders the notice of a motion requires seven clear days from when it was lodged.

The Prime Minister said parliament is expected to meet in March.

Earlier this week the opposition submitted a petition to the Governor General asking him to call parliament.
