Fiji is again looking at ways to reduce squatter settlements, with new figures showing that about 60,000 people or seven percent of the population living as squatters.

FBC News quotes the Director of Housing and Squatter Settlements, Kolinio Bola, as saying there are more than 200 squatter settlements around the country, mostly in urban centres.

He says 15 percent of the urban population is squatting, with the heaviest concentration along the Suva to Nausori corridor.
