The tourism industry in Fiji is looking at increasing its share of contributions towards the nation's Gross Domestic Product.
The Reserve Bank of Fiji has forecasted that tourism will contribute 27.8 per cent towards the GDP this year.
The Ministry of Public Enterprise, Tourism and Communications permanent secretary, Elizabeth Powell, says it is looking at increasing contributions from 27.8 per cent this year to 40.6 per cent in 10 years time.
Ms Powell says the Ministry is working on boosting the GDP contribution from an estimated 1 billion US dollars for 2011 to more than 2 billion in 2021.
Her views are being supported by Tourism Fiji's chief executive officer Josefa Tuamoto, who says the organisation is working towards these figures and the government's projections.
