Air Tahiti Nui strike ends

10:03 am on 4 July 2011

Air Tahiti Nui's schedule is returning to normal after a deal was struck to end a week-long strike by some crews.

A declaration to end the stoppage was issued after union representatives met the President Oscar Temaru who has been asked to dismiss the airline's CEO in a week when the carrier's board meets.

The strike was triggered by the airline's decision to sanction two crew members for assaulting an American Airlines employee in a Tokyo hotel.

Most Air Tahiti Nui employees were against the strike as it coincided with the start of the high season.

The airline chartered an Air New Zealand plane to cope with gaps in its schedule.
