Samoa's athletics association slammed by the prime minister and athletes

Samoa's Pacific Games shot put gold medallist, Shaka Sola, has joined the Prime Minister in criticising the country's athletic association.

Mr Sola has been left out of the team for next month's Pacific Games because the association claims he'd resigned.

But he says he hadn't.

Prime minister Tuilaepa Sa'ilele Malielegaoi says he wants a complete change of leadership in Samoan athletics because he says the organisation's weak and has failed to hold local competitions.

But the association president, Lalau Willie Fong, has written to the prime minister saying that athletics lacks funding.

In response the prime minister says it's not money but the lack of organisation that's the problem.
