The Tautua Samoa opposition party has criticised the government's moves to abolish the charge of sodomy from the crimes act.
The opposition leader, Palusalue Faapo II, says the law commission's proposal is aiming to legalise same sex marriage which is against the constitution's Christian principles.
Palusalue says sodomy is a shameful sin.
The Law Commission is reviewing some of the old law books which include the crimes legislation.
The Attorney general, Aumua Ming Leung Wai, has emphasised the law commission's task is independent but the cabinet will have the sole authority to reject or accept any recommendations from the commission on the review as part of the government's law reform project.
